Artist’s statement:

“This piece has a double meaning. Vinyl albums are 33 1/3 rpm, but singles are 45 rpm, thus the name 45s. In their heyday, 45s boasted popular A-side singles and less-known B-side singles.

Many music enthusiasts didn’t want to buy the full album because the albums often included deep cuts or fillers—which were unpopular or less known. People chose 45s because they were a more economical way to curate a personal collection. But in order to play 45s on a record player, one needed an adapter or one missed out on listening to favorite songs. This piece is a representation of that adapter.

The second meaning represents someone at the age of 45 and approaching mid life and, sometimes, needing to reinvent oneself or adapting in order to survive an ever-changing world.”
