Artist’s statement:

“In this piece, I tried to represent the journey we all take in our lifetime. We are born alone, and we die alone. But, in between, we take a piece from everyone we’ve come across during our journey. Some experiences have been good and some—not so much. Hopefully, we’ll have learned great truths and lessons along the way, living long and happy lives. Ideally, we’ll have benefited and enriched ourselves with those encounters.

When working on this project, I was reminded of the idea that we have the power to choose whether we want to turn the stumbling blocks—the ones people put in our path—into stepping stones or not. The most important lesson: never let anyone make the choice for you!”
