Windows to the Soul
Acrylic, sand, and mixed media on 20x24 canvas
Artist’s statement:
“The biblical proverb—‘The eyes are the window to the soul’—has been quoted by Cicero, Leonardo Da Vinci, and even William Shakespeare.
You can tell a lot about a person by their eyes—whether they make direct eye contact, roll them at you in mockery or disdain, hold a gaze, shift them everywhere but on you, smile at you with them, give you the “come hither” look, or flash you those “bedroom” eyes.
You can see great sorrow, pain, joy, life, emptiness, or even darkness in a person’s eyes.
At times, you can feel all eyes are on you like everyone’s watching you, full of criticism or judgment—like you’re living in a fishbowl.
Life is full of spectators and commentators. As William Shakespeare put it, ‘All the world’s a stage.’ Just make sure you’re playing to an audience of one—yourself. ‘This above all: to thine own self be true.’”
